Promoting Regional Transit
The Milwaukee region is long overdue for a Regional Transit Authority. Our residents lose out on opportunities and our transit systems lose out on potential federal funding. We need to build bridges to our surrounding communities to break down barriers and old racial prejudices to make this happen. It is in everyone’s collective economic interest, but we need to get past the cultural issues. I have made my career on being a bridge builder and I will work with surrounding counties to get this done.
Supporting our Bus Drivers
Bus drivers represented by ATU Local 998 are the lifeblood of our public bus system. It is tremendously problematic to have the system in a downward spiral. I’m the only candidate in the race who can reverse that spiral, because we must win more state and federal funds and better manage the County’s budget. We need to do so in a way that respects and honors our public employees - and makes sure they are fairly compensated.
Keeping Passengers and Drivers Safe on Our Buses
I understand that many Milwaukee County residents rely on public transportation for work, education, and other daily transportation needs. As County Executive, I will invest in public safety on Milwaukee County’s buses, creating a more secure environment for our dedicated bus operators and passengers.
I will partner with MCTS and ATU Local 998 to invest in safety solutions that bus operators know to be effective and to provide effective and responsive security on our buses. We will work closely with local law enforcement to hold offenders accountable for endangering the safety of bus operators and passengers.
